Oyster Bay Spring Beach Cleanup

Oyster Bay Spring Beach Cleanup

Rain or Shine! Meet us at the Gazebo at 9!

As part of OBCR’s efforts to support local service initiatives that benefit the bay and shoreline we utilize for rowing, we are asking members of our OBCR family to attend the cleanup in lieu of their athletes who will be at practice during that time. As the weather has not been conducive to many days of water practice, the coaches need the water time on Saturday for those in town during break. However, the community service initiative that this cleanup presents is important to our bay, the town, and our rowers.

Click here for the official cleanup flyer.

We will meet at T. R. Park in the parking lot by the gazebo to register for the event. Since drop off at practice is at 8:30 am, it will only be a short drive back to the Western Waterfront. The cleanup should only last about an hour or so.

Please bring work gloves and wear appropriate attire.

The Department of Environmental Resources hosts these cleanup events twice a year along the beaches and shoreline areas along Oyster Bay Harbor. These programs benefit wildlife and plants by creating cleaner, trash-free habitats. This cleanup is part of our environmental responsibility and stewardship as rowers on the bay.

We look forward to seeing you on the 16th! No rain date. Thank you.

Building a Home with Habitat for Humanity

We’re working on another house, this time in Bay Shore.

Rowing Groups and Building H

The clock ticks as the Town Board decides the fate of Building H, the Boathouse. The Oyster Bay Herald has an extensive article on it that you can read by clicking below.

This past weekend, our President, Dana Pagliara traveled to her alma mater with fellow rowing alumni to Chapel Hill to celebrate UNC Crew’s golden anniversary.  It was a three day event with festivities highlighting the university’s rowing past, present and future. In February of 1970, the UNC Men’s Crew Club was born and received their […]

OBCR Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity

Recently, our varsity rowers worked with Habitat for Humanity to construct an affordable housing unit in Shirley. There was much to do, much to learn, and it was a worthwhile experience once that we will certainly be repeating.

Row, Row, Row Her Boat

For resident Dana Pagliara, life is but a dream. Dana is a master rower who sparked her love of the sport as a rower for the Women’s team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 35 years ago, and a longtime proponent of what is most likely the oldest sport in America. She […]
